I found this plant!
Austral Bracken
Pteridium esculentum

A vigorous and strongly rhizomatous fern that can vary from 0.3 to 2.5m in height. It is widespread throughout the Shire, typically in soils that have a light and sandy texture and where the pH is slightly acidic. Along the Jan Juc coastline where it is predominantly a heavy clay (marl) it is confined to moist gullies and hinterland near Bells Beach where the soils natural pH is acidic.
This plant is often associated with disturbed soil, particularly after fire where it acts as a pioneer species. Its predisposition to fire together with its fast spreading, strongly branching rhizomes makes it less suitable for landscape works. However, it makes a great pot plant requiring little attention and fertiliser.
Sap from young stems are very soothing to apply to insect bites; particularly from ants like Jumping Jacks or Bullants.
